RECORD MARCH FOR MITSUBISHI MOTORS UK
Mitsubishi Motors UK has posted an all-time new vehicle sales record of 6,782 units for March, in a market that is down 2%.
The reaction to the new L200 has been unprecedented, with dealers taking 1,500 orders for the vehicle before it had even arrived in their showrooms. The actual sales figure of 2,370 new L200s does not do justice to the demand created by the striking styling, competitive pricing and generous specification offered by the vehicle. Over 1,000 additional pick-up orders were taken in March and these will filter through as quarter 2 registrations.
The upsurge in demand for pick-ups was yet again demonstrated by the segment growing 9% in the January - March 2006 period. Mitsubishi showed no hint of relinquishing its domination of this market, with the new L200 and pre-2006 model establishing a 55% retail share in quarter 1. This compares to Nissan Navara’s 31%, Toyota Hilux’s 4% and Ford Ranger’s 3%. All of this despite the fact that the new L200 was only launched on 1st March. Mitsubishi expects to maintain leadership of the pick-up segment as more and more customers realise the benefits of owning and driving a pick-up.
Sales of the Colt shot up by 45% in quarter 1 2006 against the same period last year. Colt B segment retail share rose to 2.15% compared to 1.51% last year. This confirms that Mitsubishi is establishing a growing reputation in the super-mini market.
Lance Bradley, Sales & Marketing Director of Mitsubishi Motors UK states: "We have enjoyed a very successful quarter with the reaction to the new L200 far surpassing even our own high expectations. The performance of the Colt has also been extremely positive and it appears to be firmly establishing itself as an important player in the super-mini segment."
Next to arrive in showrooms will be the Colt CZC convertible. Mitsubishi’s first convertible model for the UK market completes the Colt range and is equipped with the choice of 1.5 107bhp or 147bhp turbo engine. The CZC boasts an impressive specification list, a retractable hard roof and competitive pricing - £13,999 OTR for the CZC 1.5 and £15,999 OTR for the CZC turbo. The turbo is the best performing engine of all B segment coupe-cabriolets and the only vehicle in the segment to offer traction control.
